Get Rid of Pests Organically

It stands to reason that you don't want to spray or treat anything that you intend to eat with any nasty chemicals.  Neither do you want anything on your garden that is going to have an adverse affect on the nice insects in your garden. There are various ways to go about organic gardening.  You could try complimentary planting where you plant one type of plant to protect another but this does not always work. If you have plenty of room you could plant enough for both you and the insects but the insects will probably attack it all anyway. Or you could try neem oil insecticide.  This is fully biodegradable, so is an eco friendly insecticide over the long term. Neem oil is not toxic to mammals the only possible issue is if they were to eat loads of the stuff it may affect conception by causing temporary infertility, but all in all this is a very good way to deal with the insects that tend to ravage your plants.

Did you realize that another method that our grandparents use to use was to spray crops with soapy water, this is a great way to get rid of things like black fly that tends to affect bean crops. Working on this principle you can now buy insecticidal soap this is great as the same as us insects don't like to eat soap and they don't like crawling over it either they don't like the slippery feel to it. The only thing to remember with this is that you will need to reapply after a while especially after rain for it to remain affective. This soap will deal with all soft bodied arthropods such as aphids, spider mites, psyillids, mealy bugs and green fly. and at the same time cause no damage to the butterflies, earthworms or honeybees.

Ladybird Larvae - 2 spot Adalia Bipunctata

Ladybird Larvae - 2 spot Adalia Bipunctata
Ladybird larvae consume large numbers of aphids (greenfly and blackfly). We only sell the ladybird larvae as they are guaranteed to stay in your garden, where as adult ladybirds can (and very often) do leave your garden.

Our Price £29.99

Whitefly Biological Control - Encarsia Formosa 500 pack

Whitefly Biological Control - Encarsia Formosa 500 pack
Encarsia Formosa are tiny little wasps which lay their eggs in the body of Whitefly larvae (or scales). Pretty gruesome stuff but very environmentally sustainable and completely natural! (They may be wasps, but they do not sting humans - don't worry.)
Each of these wasps moves through the infected crops searching for Whitefly larvae. When a larva is found, the wasp carefully examines it. If it is correct, the wasp inserts an egg into it. When the Encarsia egg hatches, it consumes the whitefly from within.
Our Price - 500 Pack £8.99

Spider Mite Biological Control - Phytoseiulus Persimilis 500 Pack

Spider Mite Biological Control - Phytoseiulus Persimilis 500 Pack
Phytoseiulus Persimilis is a fast-moving and voracious predatory mite that feeds almost exclusively on many types of spider mite.
Best results are obtained by releasing Phytoseiulus Persimilis soon after spider mites first appear on a crop. For best results, apply later in the spring to avoid low temperatures which can effect the predatory mites success rate.
Our Price - 500 Pack £9.99

Aphid Biological Control - Aphidius Colemani - 100 pack

Aphid Biological Control - Aphidius Colemani - 100 pack
Aphidius Colemani are tiny little wasps that lay their eggs in the body of the aphids. The larva of the wasp eat the host aphids eventually killing them.
When fully grown, the Aphidius larva cuts a slit in the hollowed out shell of its host, and attaches the carcass to the substrate with silk. As it spins more silk within the host skin, this gradually takes on a golden colour and forms the characteristic ‘aphid mummy’. Within the mummy, the larva pupates, and after four or five days an adult is ready to emerge.
Our Price - 100 Pack £5.99

Getting Rid of White Lawn Grubs

There are two major possibilities for the sudden death of the turf grasses in your lawn and ornamental plants. One could be the cause of excessive heat. The plants can no longer tolerate the high temperature and would regressively dry out. The other reason could be the possible existence of destructive grubs that is eating up your whole backyard. If the turf grasses continue to lose its color and eventually dies, despite the regular maintenance, then most likely tiny little grubs are starting to chew your lawn.

White grubs are the larvae form of stout-bodied beetles. They are mostly detected in areas where there are brown spots. To confirm their existence, remove the dead grass and check if there is any larvae present. If you spotted one or a few white lawn grubs, gather them altogether and permanently destroy these nasty creatures. There is no need for advanced decontamination if the infestation does not spread all throughout the yard. However, in some instances where these loathsome grubs are way out of your control and are scattered all over the place, then you might need to use appropriate pesticides to stop the infestation or in worst cases, seek professional help.

One effective procedure to eliminate white grub is by using the nematodes' solution. Heterorhabditis nematodes are tiny worms who can kill white lawn grubs. They are mixed with distilled water and are sprayed on the affected areas. To acquire better results, do this process on early summer or fall. Water the grass before and after applying the solution and do this procedure twice with two-week  intervals.

Small amount of insecticides can also be use to remove younger larvae grubs while older lawn grubs are eliminated better with the use of stronger synthetic pesticide. However, consider this as your last option for it cannot only kill those lawn-eating mutts, but your plants may not survive the harsh reaction as well.

Spring Reveals Some Pesky Yard Critters

For many people, spring means the time for getting back out into the yard and looking forward to a warm summer. It means working in the yard and getting out all the equipment, like maybe a lawn sweeper or garden tractor you put away for the winter. Unfortunately, it’s also a time when you may realize that some unwanted guests have been enjoying your yard over the winter months. More specifically, you may discover you have a vole or mole problem.

Moles and voles are two different creatures. Moles burrow under the ground and eat bugs and things like worms. Voles burrow just under the grass but above ground and prefer things like immature grass. Regardless, if you find you have one or the other they can wreak havoc on your grass. Moles obviously dig holes and leave piles of dirt behind and killing the grass as they search for grubs and worms under the surface. Killing moles can be quite a chore but most agree that trapping and killing them is most effective compared to deterrents and poison pellets. Before you start trapping however, be sure to check your local laws as it’s illegal to trap and kill moles in some regions.

The reason why trapping moles is preferred to poison is you get confirmation that you’re getting the mole you’re after. Often moles won’t even eat the poison or they crawl off somewhere to die only to be replaced by another mole. All the while you have no idea if you’re solution is even working.

Voles are a little easier to get rid of and can usually be caught or trapped with a good old fashion mouse trap. You’ll know you have voles as you’ll see the intricate veins they’ve made through your grass in the spring along with little holes under shrubs, sidewalks, or at the edges of driveways. The best method for catching voles with mouse traps is setting two traps facing both directions in a vole path. Then taking a cardboard box folded over the path to make sure they don’t simply go around the path and traps. You can often catch them also just by setting mouse traps at the opening of their holes.
